Once again, I am in chaos, a dark and murky jumble, where all is confusion and disorder: I am beginning a new project. The physical chaos mirrors the mental chaos with which I begin any new project, whether as an illustrator or a writer. As encouragement, I frequently remind myself that in many creation myths, even the Great Creator began with chaos.
I try to trust that I, too, will be able to separate the light from the dark; that I, too, will be able to gather and form and shape disparate elements into an ordered universe. In other words, that I will be able to create another book.
It's hard, isn't it? I am just barely beginning to emerge, after months of confusion. Keep calm and make books. XX
ReplyDeleteIt's VERY hard.
DeleteCourage! (prononcé à la française)
ReplyDeleteYou've come through the chaos before, you'll do it again.
Yes, that's what we have to tell ourselves! Over and over...
DeleteAs Nietzsche said, “You must have chaos within you to give birth to a dancing star.” Surely he meant there must be outer chaos, as well!
ReplyDeletethank you so much for giving me that quote, which I had not come across before! And the outer chaos, I believe, is simply the metaphor or symbol for the inner chaos. A reflection of what is going on inside.
